Abstract
The culture of sustainability and the formation of professional competitions: A demand of the new millenium
The process of the deepening of the social transformations historically generated by Modernity, constitute the social, cultural, economic, political, and educational environment of the 21st century, whose greatest expression has been driven by globalization and is known today as a knowledge society. These changes have influenced the technical structure of production, since the large scale model of development has negatively impacted highly developed societies, the occurrence of which at a global level has generated a process of profound social environmental degradation; before which a growing worldwide consensus has been created, so that activities related to development can be considered through the understanding between the economic system and biophysical systems as a fundamental principle for sustainability. Starting from these two aspects, this paper analyzes the social demands placed on education serving the central principal of the knowledge society, which places education at the center of these transformations and, on the other hand, sustained by the complex paradigm that provides more ample relational possibilities and suits the epistemological bases for the interdisciplinary work based on the social fabric, to give answers to the demands of sustainable development.
