Inversión extranjera directa y medio ambiente: estado del arte en la investigación

Resumen


Este trabajo presenta una reseña de la literatura sobre la relación entre la inversión extranjera directa (IED) y el medio ambiente. Una recopilación de trabajos de los últimos quince años ha revelado un claro movimiento de investigación direccionado hacia la naturaleza context-dependent de los efectos ambientales de la IED. Este movimiento se caracteriza por la diversidad de relaciones observadas como el efectivo comportamiento ambiental de empresas subsidiarias, la relación entre el nivel de influencia de la IED sobre estándares ambientales y el grado de corruptibilidad de gobiernos locales, el origen de la IED, la influencia de características socioeconómicas locales sobre el resultado ambiental de la IED, así como el efecto de la presencia de organizaciones no gubernamentales ambientales.
