Telemedicina oral: experiencia en medicina estomatológica durante la pandemia por COVID-19
Resumen
La actual pandemia de la enfermedad por coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), ha causado cambios en los métodos de atención médica de los pacientes. En respuesta al COVID-19, diversos centros médicos y odontológicos han adoptado herramientas y tecnologías digitales como la telemedicina y la atención virtual, que se refieren a la prestación de servicios de atención médica digitales o a distancia mediante el uso de tecnologías de la información y las comunicaciones, para la evaluación, diagnóstico y tratamiento de pacientes. Se espera que la telemedicina brinde atención oportuna al tiempo que minimiza la exposición para proteger a los médicos y pacientes. Teniendo esto en cuenta, los especialistas en medicina oral pueden considerar incorporar la telemedicina en sus prácticas clínicas de rutina para beneficiar a los pacientes que tienen que viajar grandes distancias o que tienen que depender de familiares o transporte para asistir a visitas clínicas en persona. En consecuencia, se realizó una revisión de la literatura para proporcionar evidencia teórica y práctica sobre la importancia del uso de la telemedicina y la atención virtual para el tratamiento remoto de pacientes; a su vez se describen tres casos de medicina oral llevados vía telemedicina con éxito. El objetivo de este estudio es consolidar soluciones de atención virtual en el tiempo actual, para integrar las tecnologías digitales en la atención del médico bucal a sus pacientes.
