Efectividad de la crioterapia para el dolor posoperatorio en pacientes con periodontitis apical sintomática: revisión sistemática

Objetivo: Determinar la efectividad de la crioterapia en el manejo del dolor endodóntico posoperatorio en pacientes con periodontitis apical sintomática con base en una revisión de la literatura en los últimos cinco años. Métodos: Se realizó una revisión sistemática de la literatura buscando en las siguientes fuentes de información electrónicas: registro Central Cochrane de Clinical Trials (CENTRAL), Science Direct, Biblioteca virtual de Salud (BVS), Biblioteca Cochrane, Trip Database, Sage Pub, Springer Link, Wiley Online Library, Medline (vía Pubmed), Europe PMC, Science Direct, Scopus, Web of Science. La búsqueda se limitó a ensayos clínicos aleatorizados y controlados con más de 50 pacientes publicados entre el 2020 y 2024. Resultados: Se incluyeron 11 ensayos clínicos controlados y aleatorizados que cumplían con los criterios de elegibilidad. Los resultados indican que la crioterapia es efectiva para disminuir el dolor posoperatorio en pacientes con periodontitis apical sintomática que reciben tratamientos endodónticos. Conclusiones: Considerando las limitaciones de la presente revisión sistemática y en vista de la efectividad observada, se puede recomendar la implementación de técnicas de crioterapia como parte de los procedimientos de rutina en endodoncia para el manejo del dolor posoperatorio, con lo cual los dentistas dispondrán de una herramienta adicional para mejorar el bienestar de sus pacientes.
