Manejo del dolor y la ansiedad mediante sedación en la odontología pediátrica moderna. Una revisión.
Resumen
La sedación es una herramienta valiosa en odontología, pero es como un arma cargada: si se usa correctamente, puede proteger y, si se usa de forma inapropiada, puede ser mortal. El motivo más común de derivación a las consultas de odontología pediátrica para pacientes nuevos es el manejo de la ansiedad dental. No solo existen riesgos asociados con las extracciones dentales bajo anestesia general, sino que esto también puede contribuir a la ansiedad dental en la edad adulta. Como odontólogos pediátricos, es nuestro deber aliviar la ansiedad del paciente. Los resultados exitosos dependen de un enfoque sistemático, así como de contar con el conocimiento y las habilidades para manejar eventos adversos.
