Characteristics of non-motor disorders in patients with parkinson's disease. A narrative review
ABSTRACT:
Parkinson's disease is the second most frequent neurodegenerative disease that affects movement control, balance and cognitive functions, among others. It is characterized by presenting motor and non-motor symptoms, the latter have gained relevance because they precede motor symptoms and negatively interfere with the quality of life of patients. The objective of the study is to review the most up-to-date data in the literature, with the type and frequency of non-motor disorders diagnosed in patients with Parkinson's disease. A bibliographic search of the last 5 years was carried out, in the PubMed and PAHO Virtual Health Library search engines, in each of them search equations were used through MeSh/DeCS terms: Non-motor disorders, Non-motor symptoms, Non-motor clinical manifestations and Parkinson's disease. According to the results obtained, it was evidenced that the most frequent non-motor symptoms are mood and sleep disorders, with differences between men and women. In conclusion, non-motor symptoms must be identified early or retrospectively, in order to carry out a comprehensive therapeutic management of the patient.
