India: Resultados de la desmonetización 2016

Resumen


El gobierno de la India desmonetizó el 8 de noviembre de 2016 los billetes de 500 y 1.000 rupias con el propósito de identifcar el tamaño de la economía formal y reducir la magnitud de la economía paralela. En este sentido, el artículo tiene por objetivo analizar los resultados de esta desmonetización. Se concluye que la medida generó escasez de efectivo, cambios en las preferencias de los consumidores, mayor uso de transferencias electrónicas, aumento de la inflación, disminución en el crecimiento de la actividad productiva, y una nueva distribución del cono monetario.
