Manejo clínico de la interrelación diabetes y periodontitis. Directrices conjuntas entre la Sociedad Venezolana de Periodontología, la Sociedad Venezolana de Endocrinología y Metabolismo y la Federación Nacional de Asociaciones y Unidades de Diabetes

Resumen


El manejo clínico de la interrelación entre la diabetes y la periodontitis representa un desafío para todas las partes involucradas en el cuidado de la salud. La presente guía, pretende ofrecer herramientas para la implementación de rutinas que favorezcan la orientación clínica y el intercambio de conocimiento científico entre Endocrinólogos, Periodoncistas y otros profesionales de salud involucrados en el equipo de cuidado integral de los pacientes. La Sociedad Venezolana de Periodontología, la Sociedad Venezolana de Endocrinología y Metabolismo y la Federación Nacional de Unidades de Diabetes, designaron comisiones específicas para adaptar directrices conjuntas, abordando la interrelación diabetes-periodontitis. Se elaboraron las directrices a seguir para el manejo de pacientes que presenten diabetes y periodontitis, orientadas tanto a los pacientes, como a los médicos, odontólogos y equipos involucrados en el Sistema de Salud Pública. Se concluye que la aplicación de las directrices puede proporcionar un abordaje más completo de pacientes con diabetes y periodontitis, con la consecuente mejoría de la calidad de vida y de los parámetros clínicos médicos y periodontales, con la posible reducción de costos para toda actividad médica y odontológica.
