Estado nutricional y cáncer de ovario
Resumen
La salud general de las mujeres depende de su dieta y nutrición. La falta de nutrientes puede repercutir en la salud y viceversa. El cáncer de ovario es la tercera neoplasia ginecológica más frecuente y el estado nutricional parece estar relacionado con el pronóstico de las personas con neoplasias ginecológicas. Por ello, es fundamental evaluar, controlar y mejorar la salud nutricional de las pacientes con cáncer de ovario durante su tratamiento. Además, parece que la salud dietética de las pacientes sometidas a tratamiento influye en su tasa de supervivencia. La quimioterapia antineoplásica afecta tanto a las células enfermas como a las no cancerosas, lo que provoca un alto nivel de toxicidad. La agresividad del tratamiento tiene efectos secundarios que dificultan la alimentación, lo que da lugar a un estado de deterioro nutricional que puede conducir a la desnutrición. La intervención nutricional debe ser un aspecto intrínseco del tratamiento del cáncer para mantener y/o mejorar el estado nutricional de los pacientes y reducir o minimizar los efectos secundarios, dada la alta frecuencia de consecuencias adversas. En consecuencia, el objetivo de esta revisión fue examinar las pruebas disponibles sobre la asociación entre el estado nutricional y el cáncer de ovario.
