Effectiveness of the use of probiotics as an adjuvant treatment For the management of allergic rhinitis. Autonomous Institute University Hospital of Los Andes, 2024
ABSTRACT
The study aimed to evaluate the effect of probiotics as an adjunctive treatment for allergic rhinitis in the Otolaryngology Department, Autonomous University Hospital of Los Andes, 2024. This was a comparative study with an experimental design involving two groups, one receiving conventional treatment and the other receiving conventional treatment plus probiotics, to determine the effect on laboratory results and quality of life before and after each treatment. The SNOT-22 questionnaire was used to assess patients' quality of life. The sample consisted of 50 patients randomly and equally distributed between the two study groups. Results: 64% female, age 25.94 ± 15.482 years. A statistically significant difference (p<0.001) was determined in the averages of IgE, HC eosinophilia, MN eosinophilia, FND, FNI, and quality of life before and after each treatment. Conclusion: Positive effects were determined between before and after each treatment, with no statistical differences between the two treatments and a small difference in favor of the probiotic group.
